California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, CalRecycle, is helping residents to understand the new law and encourage them recycle food scraps. Many cities offer countertop containers that can be used to keep food scraps separated from their yard waste.
Some cities have even set up green waste bins, allowing residents to dispose of their food waste in an environmentally-friendly manner. There are exceptions to the law, such as San Jose which doesn’t require businesses to donate their food.
